Children’s Division Age 3-7

Ballet: In these classes children study the fundamentals of classical ballet technique. They practice the 5 positions of the feet and arms, a dancer’s correct posture, finger positions, pliés, tendus, chassés, early jumps, basic coordinations and musical phrasing. Children learn the names of the great composers: Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Minkus and more while they’ll study the stories of the great classical ballets (Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Swan Lake etc). Using their ballet vocabulary, they act out scenes from the ballets while listening to the original orchestrated music.

Tap & Musical Theater (Broadway Dance): In all of our Tap and Musical Theater classes we study and practice tap technique while also learning the songs, stories, and choreography from the great Broadway shows including: Singin’ in the Rain, An American in Paris, Annie, Mary Poppins, The Wizard of Oz, Cats and many more.  Broadway shows encompass all styles of dance, tap being a major component of many.

This level is studying the same fundamentals as the A2 students (following level), it is for the student who is ready for the transition to a moderately more technical class than the primary classes. There is an age overlap in A1 and A2 (4.5-5.5 & 5-7 respectively).

Children develop at different rates so this is a class that skews slightly younger than most of the A2s but in their maturity and focus they are ready for the same curriculum work. If your child’s age falls in the of these groups at 5 years old then you should choose a class or classes that works best for your schedule.
